Abstract
1424869 Polyamide-acid salt solution WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 26 March 1973 [19 April 1972] 14335/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C7] A method of making a non-aqueous polyamide acid electrodeposition composition comprises reacting 1 p.b.w. polyamide acid in 12.5 to 15.5 p.b.w. of a non-aqueous non-electrolizable organic solvent with 0À8 to 1.5 p.b.w. of an imidazole or organic t-amine to form a salt and adding to the resulting salt solution 7 to 9 p.b.w. of a non-aqueous non-electrolizable organic non-solvent for the salt to provide a solution of the salt in the solvent/non-solvent mixture. The polyamide acid may be obtained as described in Specifications 1,056,564 and 1,032,649. Various polyamide acid forming reactants, solvents, non-solvents, imidazoles and t-amines are mentioned. The specified preparation and order of mixing are stated to just barely keep the salt in non-colloidal solution and result in even and uniform covering of both flat surfaces and edges in electrodeposition processes, e.g. for coating electrical conductors. Finely-divided pigments or lubricants may be included to obtain coloured coatings or anti-frictional films. Coatings of 1 to 3 mils. may be deposited on Al, Cu, Ni, Fe, Zn, Ti, Pb, Sn, Pt or stainless steel.
