Abstract

1424802 Switching systems for lamp circuits PLESSEY CO Ltd 19 April 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4014/72 Heading H2H A control circuit comprises a number of series connected lamp units 3 each including a lamp e, and a bidirectional solid state switch TC associated with one or more of the lamp units for selectively controlling the operation of the corresponding lamp. The switch TC may be a triac or a pair of oppositely connected thyristors and the lamp units are grouped in sections 1, 2 of an airfield lighting system. The lamps are supplied with current via transformers T connected to a constant current regulator. By applying a trigger voltage between cables 4 and 5 or 4 and 6 the triacs in the section 1 or 2 may be rendered conductive to short circuit the lamps in that section. The cables 5, 6 may be joined and supplied with an A.C. control voltage in phase with the transformer supply voltage. The lamps which are switched off by the control voltage are determined by the polarity of the transformer secondary windings.
