Abstract
1424767 Automatic control of metal-working machines OSOBOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO STANSKOSTROENIA 28 March 1973 14866/73 Heading G3N The program controlled movement of a spherical ended cutter is interpolated by considering the surface to be cut as being formed of surfaces of bodies of rotation conjugate with flat portions located orbitarily in space. As shown, a perforated tape 2 is read by a reader 1 to derive information relating to the path to be travelled by a spherical cutter in working surfaces expressed as planes perpendicular to the ones of revolution of bodies of rotation and orbitarily located congruent flat portions. For arcs the co-ordinates of the beginning and end with respect to the centre of the arc are given together with the cosines of the angles between machine ones and the vector perpendicular to the plane of the arc. The output of the reader 1 is fed through an information introducing unit 3 to a correction unit 4, connected to a control panel 5, the output of which is fed to an interpolator 6, supplying positioning signals to a unit 7 controlling the drives, (not shown), of the associated milling machinery. The interpolator 6 comprises a memory 8 an arithmetic unit 9 and a control unit 10 which are interconnected to perform for the interpolation of an arc trial steps from the evaluation of which is determined the trial step to be used as the actual interpolating step. The trial steps are effected in a predetermined sequence depending on the serial number of the octant in which the arc being reproduced is located as well as the direction of tracing of this arc. The unit 4 includes a memory unit 16 an arithmetic unit 17 and a control unit 18 interconnected to modify the programmed geometric parameters for the dimensions of the actual dimensions of the spherical cutter being used in the milling operation.
