Abstract
1424474 Infra-red heating system ELSTEIN-WERK M STEINMETZ KG 20 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972 (2)] 8260/73 Heading H5H An infra-red radiating system, e.g. for heating plastics sheets, comprises a plurality of polygonal electrically heated ceramic radiating elements 12, 13, 14 releasably supported sideby-side by a system of girders 1, 2 within a surrounding enclosure 3 so that their side edges are contiguous (Fig. 3) and their radiating surfaces 15 are substantially coplanar, some of the girders, e.g. 2 being releasably secured to the side walls of enclosure 3 and all of the girders being releasably secured together. The peripheral girders 2, which are half the width of the intervening girders 1, are secured to the enclosure 3 by longitudinally adjustable coupling elements 7 which are clamped over longitudinal reinforcements 8 of the side walls by screws 6. The girders 1, 2 are connected together by coupling elements 4 which are longitudinally adjustable along guidance channels 5 formed by abutting girders. Eadh radiating element 12, 13, 14 comprises a hollow ceramic plate provided with a curved rear surface from which locating ribs 24 extend to be positioned in a common plane by edges 26 of the girders. A resistance wire is embedded in a spiral protrusion on the lower face of each plate 12, 13, 14. The pitch of the spiral may be varied to give greater heat output at the periphery to compensate for peripheral losses. Hollow sections 11 in the girders may be filled with thermal insulation.
