Abstract

1423999 Nitrodiphenylamine azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 May 1973 [14 July 1972] 33076/72 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs, which contain at least one -CO 2 H group but are free from -SO 3 H groups, of the formula wherein Y is NO 2 , CN, SCN or -X-(CH 2 ) n -D in which X is a direct link or -SO 2 NR-, -SO 2 -, -SO 2 O-, -CONR-, -CO-, -COO-, -O-, -S-, -NR- or -NRCOR being H or an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl radical, n is an integer of from zero to 12, and D is H or a carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical; each -N=N-Q group is directly attached to ring A or to D when it is a carbocyclic ring; Q is an optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclic radical; and rings A, B and D may optionally be substituted by halogen, NO 2 , CN, optionally substituted alkyl or aryl, alkoxy, mono- or di-alkylamino, mono- or di-arylamino, CONH 2 , acyl, COH, OH, SO 2 NH 2 or in which Z is -O-, -S-, -NR<SP>1</SP>-, -NR<SP>1</SP>CO-, -CO-, -COO- or -SO 2 NR<SP>1</SP>-, R<SP>1</SP> being H or an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl radical, and T is an optionally substituted alkylene, arylene or divalent heterocyclic radical; and m is 1 or 2, are prepared by (a) diazotizing an amine of the formula wherein V is a halogen, coupling with QH to give a compound of the formula and then reacting this with an optionally substituted aniline; or (b) reacting together compounds of the formulµ or (c) diazotizing an amine of the formula or of the formula and coupling with QH; or (d) reacting together compounds of the formulµ wherein Q<SP>1</SP> is as Q. Only process (c) is illustrated in the examples. The novel dyestuffs give yellow to red shades and may be used to dye synthetic textile materials, e.g. polyesters, cellulose esters, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile and polyurethanes and their blends with each other and with natural fibres such as wool and cellulosic fibres.
