Abstract

1423936 Roller-and ring mills DEUTSCHE BABCOCK & WILCOX AG 14 May 1974 [24 May 1973] 21261/74 Heading B2A [Also in Division F2] The temperature and oil level for the shaft and bearings of each roller A of a roller- and ring mill having a rotating plate 2 are sensed to indicate whether the roller is running or jammed. Each bearing 6 Fig. 1 is splash lubricated from a sump D 2 . A passage 12 through each shaft 7 contains a resistive probe 8 which measures temperature and a sleeve 9 around the probe which cooperates with the wall of the passage 12 to form a capacitor whose capacity varies when filled with lubricating oil. The resistive probe forms one arm of a whealstone's bridge 10 Fig. 2 whose unbalance is measured at E 1 ÀÀÀ 3 , and the capacitor is part of an oscillatory circuit 15, frequency changes being measured by a Wier Robinson bridge 16 and displayed at F 1ÀÀÀ3 . Alarms may be included to indicate jamming of a roller.
