Abstract

1423355 Collecting particulate sample BRITISH STEEL CORP 27 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 30749/72 Heading GIB A device for collecting a sample of particulate material for analysis comprises particle inlet part 10, particle outlet part 44, fluidized bed storage chamber 16 in which in use of the device the sample collects, chamber 16 having fluidizing medium admission port 13, and flow switching means 14 for selectively connecting the particle inlet port 10 and the particle outlet port 44 to chamber 16. The particulate material may be atomized steel from a converter and the particles introduced at 10 may be fluidized with argon, dust particles leaving the device at 22 while particles to be analyzed fall into chamber 16. Spool 18 in the flow switching device may be operated at intervals either manually or by a conventional linear actuator to connect chamber 16 with duct 44, when the particles collected in fluidized condition in chamber 16 pass to an analyzer comprising plasma jet 46 and spectrograph 48.
