Abstract

1423324 Marking device SIEMENS AG 30 Jan 1974 [19 Feb 1973] 04428/74 Heading D1L In the marking of electrical cables a suitable apparatus as shown in Fig. 2 comprises a rotary element in the form of a nozzle wheel 20 having a hollow shaft 21, a distributor head 22, tubes 24 arranged to communicate with the interior of the hollow shaft 21 and spraying nozzles 23 at the outer ends of the tubes 24 and forming peripheral marking applicators. The arrangement is such that the nozzles can be connected selectively so as to receive coloured marking liquid by way of the respective tube 24 and one of the holes 26. Closing means is provided, which is adjustable selectively to block communication to one or more of the applicators. Thus at one end, the distributor head 22 is closed by a cover 27 and at the other by a piston 28 movable by means of a rod 29. The piston 28 is formed with holes 30 through which coloured marking liquid can flow and can be moved so as to cover one or more of the holes 26 to control the supply of coloured marking liquid along the tubes 24 and hence the nozzles 23. In a modification, not shown, the closing means comprises one or more cylindrical rings located in the distributor head 22 so that holes within the rings can be rotated in or out of register with the holes 26 leading to the tubes 24. The coloured marking liquid may also be distributed through interconnecting ducts from the distributor head to the nozzles. Blockages can be eliminated in the nozzles and elsewhere by means of a device which applies a pressure wave to the liquid within the hollow shaft 21.
