Abstract
1423036 Dry-spinning of filaments E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 31 Jan 1973 [2 Feb 1972] 4884/73 Heading B5B Filaments 60 are dry spun by passing heated polymer solution through a spinneret 22 having an annular array of orifices (30), Fig. 5, not shown, preferably via a perforated metering plate 28; an aspiration gas is introduced at 38 e.g. via an annular diffusing screen 42 and part of the gas is guided to pass at right angles to the spun filaments closely adjacent to the spinneret by a deflector 56 and removed through a vacuum conduit 50 located centrally of the array of orifices. The deflector 56 is preferably cupshaped and its rim is less than an inch below the exit face of the spinneret 22. The deflector may have a # inch hole in it through which condensed solvent drains. The proportion of gas removed via conduit 50 is less than a half, preferably less than a quarter. The conduit 50 may be extended below the deflector 56 so that gas can be removed both above and below the deflector. An annular shroud may surround the spinneret. The apparatus is suitable for segmental elastomer, polyacrylonitrile, and aromatic polyamide filaments.
