Abstract

1422667 Offshore structures; spuds; stud and socket fastenings MARATHON MFG CO 26 Nov 1973 [9 May 1973] 54824/73 Headings E1H and E2B [Also in Division F2] A floating drilling platform 10 has a plurality of legs 12 movable longitudinally relative to the platform and each leg has a tubular member 16. Joint J connects the removable upper section 16a of each leg to the lower portion 16b of the leg. The joint comprises a female member 22 having longitudinally displaced raised annular surfaces 22a, 22b and male member 20 received by the female member has longitudinally raised annular surfaces 20a, 20b which mate with them. The raised annular surfaces are short in length with respect to the length of the joint and locking members 34, 36, 38, Fig. 4, releasably lock the members together. In the embodiment shown wedge guides 40 are positioned to restrain lateral movement of the locking members and pins such as 58 hold the members in the locked position.
