Abstract
1422005 Valves ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 30 March 1973 [1 April 1972] 15377/73 Heading F2V Apparatus for controlling the quantity of liquid discharged from an outlet 24, Fig. 1, comprises a flowmeter 10 of the rotary type, flow quantity selector means 11, 13, a valve 21, and means for coupling the selector means with the flowmeter so that the valve is automatically closed after the selected flow quantity has been discharged. After selecting the flow quantity by angular adjustment of knob 11 with respect to fixed scale 12, the knob and valve assembly 11, 21 is moved axially from the valve-closed position, Fig. 3 (not shown), into the valve-open position shown, whereby spring-loaded pin 16 rides over the frusto-conical portion of a flange 17 on an element 13 and enters a groove 19 thereby retaining the assembly in the valveopen position wherein gear-wheel 18b on the element 13 meshes with output gear-wheel 18 of the flowmeter. Thus the element 13 is rotated by the flowmeter when the valve is open. The flange 17 has therein a transverse groove (20) which after rotation of the element through an angle corresponding to the angular setting of knob 11, moves into alignment with the pin 16 thereby enabling a spring 15 to force the assembly to return to the valve-closed position. A damper 34, 35 provides smooth return movement. The element 13 may have a stop (25) screwed into one of several angularly spaced holes in its periphery for applications where quick adjustment of knob 11 regularly to the same setting is needed, e.g. in hospitals for filling baths. Removal of the element 13 for altering the position of the stop is possible after removal of cap 32 and ring clip 27. The valve may be closed prematurely by rotating a knob 22 to retract the pin 16 against the action of its spring 30. The apparatus may be associated with a mixer device 2 having hot and cold water connections and a graduated handle 3. The valve may be located downstream of the flowmeter.
