Abstract

1422000 Spare wheel carriers CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 19 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 9115/73 Heading B7J A vehicle spare wheel lifting apparatus comprises a carrier bar 30 connectible to a spare wheel 35, by screws 32 passing through diametrically opposite holes in the metal wheel rim; a conventional vehicle lifting jack 17, e.g. hydraulic and operated by a detachable hand lever 36, which jack is detachably secured by its tapered base part 18 under a rod 19, secured between triangular support plates 13 of a bracket 10 mountable via flanges 15 on the chassis frame 16 of a vehicle and a rod 20 sleeved with rubber and removably secured to the plates 13; a groover guide 28 for the jack engaging a cable 26 secured to the carrier bar 30 and to the bar 19, whereby when the device is in use the spare wheel 35 can be lifted from the ground and secured in a raised stowed position against the base 11 of the bracket 10 by nuts 37 engaging the screws 32 which pass through holes 34 on the base 11. The spare wheel may be lowered by operating a bleed valve 38 on the jack. When the wheel 35 is in the stowed position the jack can be removed from the bracket 10 for conventional use in lifting the vehicle. The vehicle may be provided with an electrically operated visual or audible warning device which is energized when unauthorized removal of the spare wheel is attempted.
