Abstract
1421996 Web drying apparatus OMNIUM DF PROSPECTIVE INDUSTRIELLE 19 Jan 1973 [26 Jan 1972 2 Oct 1972] 2974/73 Heading F4G A fabric web 2 is dried by passage through transverse slot 9a into a chamber 8 and out via transverse slot 9b, the chamber 8 being supplied with compressed air through inlet 4, reservoir 7, and conduits 6. The arrangement of Fig. 1 may be inverted; the lower element 1 may be replaced by another element 3. The slots 9a and 9b are adjustable to accommodate different thicknesses of web, and may extend the full width of the web and be closed at their ends to control the width of the web 2. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, the ends of the slots 9a and 9b are formed as longitudinal slots inward of the web edges, and one of the web edges is engaged by a detector which controls the pressure of gas supplied to the chamber 8 in response to the position of the web edge relative to a fixed mark, to control the width of the web. The lips of the slots 9a and 9b may be formed with transverse grooves, or be formed of flat surfaces only. In Fig. 5, the upper side of the chamber 8 is formed by a deformable member 22 movable between stop surfaces 27 and 28 and acted on by further compressed air supplied to a chamber 33 defined by a deformable membrane 31 fixed to the member 22. The chamber 33 communicates via ducts 34 with the chamber 8, and adjustment of the pressure in chamber 33 controls the drying pressure in chamber 8. Local or general variations in the spacing "d" are corrected.
