Abstract

1421868 Preparation of 1-hydroxy-N-(2- cyclopentyl - 4 - t - butylphenoxybutyl) - 2- naphthamide AGFA - GEVAERT AG 23 March 1973 [23 March 1972] 14155/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] 1 - Hydroxy - N - (2 - cyclopentyl - 4 - tbutylphenoxybutyl-2-naphthamide is prepared by melting 2 - cyclopentyl - 4 - t - butylphenoxybutylamine and phenyl 1-hydroxy-2- naphthoate under vacuum at 140‹ C. until phenol evolution ceased. 2-Cyclopentyl-4-tbutylphenoxybutylamine is prepared by catalytically hydrogenating 2-cyclopentyl-4-tbutylphenoxybutyronitrile in alcohol for 6 hours at 100 excess atmospheres and 120‹ C. 2 - Cyclopentyl - 4 - t - butylphenoxybutyronitrile is prepared by adding dropwise 2-cyclopentyl-4- t-butylphenol in alcohol to sodium dissolved in absolute alcohol, adding dropwise chlorobutyronitrile in alcohol and refluxing for 5 hours. 2-Cyclopentyl-4-t-butylphenol is prepared by adding isobutene at 120‹ C. over 1¢ hours to 2-cyclopentylphenol, xylene and a catalyst in an autoclave and stirring for 15 minutes at 120‹ C. 2-Cyclopentylphenol is prepared by heating phenol, cyclopentene and γ-aluminium oxide at 300‹ C. in an autoclave for 2 hours.
