Abstract

1421636 X-ray film holders MINNESOTA MINING & Mfg CO 25 June 1973 [26 June 1972 25 May 1973] 30122/73 Heading G2X [Also in Division H5] A vacuum film-holder for x-ray apparatus comprises a rigid bottom plate 18 and side walls 19 which at least at the top include a resilient gasket 20 on which rests a flexible top plate 21, a pressure plate 24, first and second intensifying screens 26, 27 and an exhaust port 28 whereby the filmholder can be exhausted causing the top plate 21 to be uniformly drawn down against the gasket 20 to hold the film and the intensifying screens closely together. When the holder is placed in a bucky tray 15 the port 28 is aligned with an exhaust fixture 31. The top plate is attached to the rest of the film holder by hinges (22) Fig. 2 (not shown) which extend through apertures (23) in the top plate. Means for indentifying the film consists of lamps 40 or electroluminescent panels which illuminate a light-conducting plastics sheet 38 which transmits the light to a panel 37 at an aperture 45 in the pressure plate 24 and an aperture 46 in screen 26. A negative 47 with data written on is inserted into aperture 46 and the film is exposed to the light from lamps 40. This area of the film is shielded from the x-rays. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the film holder is permanently attached to the bucky tray. When the tray is inserted connections of the vacuum and electric circuits are automatically made. The top plate is held in place by magnetic strips (72, 74) and in the case of the top plate the strips can be flexible polymer based magnets.
