1421357 Coin wrapping apparatus; feeding webs LAUREL BANK MACHINE CO Ltd 12 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 57692/73 Headings B8C and B8R An apparatus for wrapping a stack of coins includes a tape feed driving roller 8 pivotally mounted for movement into and out of engagement with a guide roller 4 upon energization of an electromagnet 34, a cutter blade 6 for severing a length of tape from a supply thereof, and a control system for the electromagnet 34 which includes a microswitch M 2 operable by a rotatable cam disc 37. The apparatus is also arranged to permit variation of the length of tape fed and cut from the supply 2. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the electromagnet 34 can be controlled by a second rotatable cam disc 37<SP>1</SP> and associated microswitch M 3 as an alternative to the first cam disc 37 and microswitch M 2 . The cam discs 37, 37<SP>1</SP> are different and energize the electromagnet for different lengths of time. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the speed of rotation of the driving roller 8 is changed by selectively engaging a dog clutch (56) which is keyed for rotation on a shaft (53), with one of two gears (54, 55) having different diameters. The gears (54, 55) are rotatable on the shaft and are part of a gear train for transmitting drive to the roller 8. The dog clutch (56) is movable by an electromagnet (58) and springs (60, 63) acting on a pivoted lever (61). In a third embodiment the driving roller 8 is replaceable by a roller of different diameter. The tape is guided from the cutter blade 6 to the wrapping station by a guide 11 which may be a one-piece construction as shown or comprise two co-operating pivoted cantilevers (11a, 11b), Fig. 8 (not shown). The wrapping station includes three wrapping rollers 12-14 and a support 30 for the stack of coins. The rollers 12, 13 are mounted at the ends of levers 15, 16 which are supported by pivots at 21, 22 respectively, and are pivotally connected at their other ends to a connecting link 17. The roller 14 is mounted at one end of an arm 18 which is supported at its other end by the pivot 22, and at one end of a further arm 19 which is pivoted at its other end to the arm 15. The wrapping rollers 12-14 are movable apart by a cam wheel 36 acting, against a spring or springs 26, 27, on a lever 20 connected to or integral with the connecting link 17.
