1421352 Mast for lift truck KNICKERBOCKER CO 4 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 53252/74 Divided out of 1421351 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] In a telescopic mast for a fork lift truck, a latch is mounted on the uppermost or inner section 32 for locking the inner section first with the lower or base section 28 and then with the lifting carriage 22 as the latter is elevated along the mast. The latch comprises a plate 72 with a central slot 110 through which a pin 112 passes to loosely pivotally mount the plate on the inner mast section 32. The plate has a pair of convex surfaces 114, 116, which meet at an apex 136 for co-operation with a roller 106 by which the plate is biased into end positions. The plate further has recesses 124, 126 which co-operate respectively with latch actuators 128, 130 mounted respectively on the lift carriage and on the base section 28. In operation, with the mast in its retracted position, the actuator 130 is in engagement with the recess 126, Fig. 8, and the lifting force applied on the inner mast section 32, by chains (35), Fig. 2 (not shown), maintains the latch in the shown position to lock the inner mast section 32 to the outer mast section 28. When the lift carriage is raised the actuator 128 engages in the recess 124 and due to the greater leverage thereof will pivot the plate 72 to the position of Fig. 10 whereat the carriage 22 is locked to the inner section 32 and will move therewith during any subsequent raising of the mast.
