Abstract
1421330 Hinges METAL BOX Ltd 20 June 1973 [4 July 1972] 31228/72 Heading E2F A box with a hinged lid has the adjoining edges of the box and lid sides 12, 16; 11, 15 respectively formed as hollow beads 18, 19, 17 to receive from opposite ends looped wires 24 which serve as hinge pins. One arm e.g. 22 of each loop is flattened to provide a retention within its bead 18. The retention may be within the lid or each arm of the loops may be flattened so that the loop serves both as a hinge and a lid closing spring. In a further alternative arrangement (Fig. 13, not shown) each hinge wire is formed as a right-angled arm with one branch cranked to accommodate the difference in level between the box and lid beads. The box and lid may be of metal or plastics material.
