Abstract

1421221 Stackable cartons A & E PLASTIK PAK CO Inc 6 March 1973 10827/73 Heading B8P To enable cartons for fruit to be made of thinner paperboard material, which may be corrugated, the carton ends are reinforced by a frame, preferably of a plastic, which takes the weight of superposed cartons. The carton has flaps 28 on end walls 22 permanently secured by adhesive to the side walls 24 and flaps 30 on the sides that fold in to form a lid. Each end frame 14 fits over a carton end wall and is secured thereto by applying a heating iron to tapered projections 90 projecting through holes in the end wall and thereby forming a head on the inside of the wall. Each frame 14 has stacking surfaces 50 at its upper ends and a co-planar surface 46 which is hollow and so also forms a handle. Projections 88 on the surfaces 50 engage recesses in the base of a superposed carton. The lower surface of the frame 14 carries serrations (96, Fig. 5, not shown) to prevent a stack of containers moving laterally on a pallet or floor.
