Abstract

1420649 Stabilized hydroxyalkyl cellulose J M JACKSON 23 March 1973 14266/73 Heading C3F [Also in Division F1] An additive composition for non-clay wellbore fluids comprises a water-soluble non- ionic hydroxyalkyl cellulose and magnesia. The preparation of magnesia is such that when a well-bore fluid contains sufficient of the hydroxyalkyl cellulose to give it the required viscosity and hence carrying capacity, there is more magnesia present than will dissolve in the fluid. The pH of the fluids lies from 8À5 to 11À0. The examples illustrate the use of the additive with a sodium chloride brine fluid. Calcium lignosulphonate may also be present. The fluids have a stable viscosity and reduced water loss.
