1420296 Measuring biological oxygen demand BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 7 March 1974 [9 March 1973] 10249/74 Heading G1N A process for measuring biological oxygen demand (BOD) of a water sample containing microbes and biodegradable organic material comprises agitating the sample in a vessel, supplying oxygen to the sample by a zirconium dioxide oxygen pump controlled by the differential partial pressure resulting from consumption of oxygen by the sample and taking the pump current-time product as a measure of the BOD The pump comprises a zirconium dioxide tube with a porous platinum electrode on inside and outside.
