Abstract

1420197 Electrolytic chlorinator MORGAN BERKELEY & CO Ltd 21 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 59470/71 Heading C7B An electrolytic chlorinator 10 a-d has a base portion 15 for fitting on the inside steel wall 18 of a sea-water inlet conduit 4, 9 of a ship's hull, a plurality (e.g. 6) of elongate vanes 16 extending upwardly from the base portion defining therebetween one or more (e.g. 5) elongate open-ended channels 19 aligned with the sea-water flow through the conduit, and electrolyzing electrodes 22 extending over the major parts of the vane surfaces which bound the channel(s). The channels may be closed at their upper sides by a fixed or removable cover 17. Preferably the electrodes 22 are Ti plates platinized on one side only, alternately folded about the tip or the base of the vanes with the Pt outermost. The vanes may be of plastics (e.g. glass fibre reinforced resin) moulded integrally with the base portion or cover. To prevent electrolytic corrosion of the conduit, guard electrodes (23) Fig. 2c (not shown) of platinized Ti may be provided in the vanes near their ends, insulated from the electrolyzing electrodes and maintained at a positive potential. The potential between the electrolyzing electrodes may also be changed in direction periodically. Alternatively a steady bias current may be supplied thereto. A capacitor timing circuit in which two waveforms are generated is disclosed; the waveforms are combined and applied to a gate transistor which gates HF triggering pulses to the SCRs.
