Abstract

1420139 Laminating flexible webs; seaming non-metallic sheet material PAPER CONVERTING MACHINE CO 27 Dec 1973 59734/73 Headings B5N and B5K [Also in Division B6] Superposed moving webs, e.g. paper webs for producing toilet tissues and towelling, are bonded by applying compressive forces along spaced lines parallel to the direction of movement, the directions of the forces being convergent. Such forces may be applied between co-operating surfaces 19, 25 and 20, 26 of bevelled wheel 16 and bevelled anvil 17. The anvil 17 may be a roller provided with slots or grooves 21. Glassining may take place along the bonding lines. These lines are interrupted by non- bonded portions if a toothed wheel or anvil is used. The angle B may be 45-90 degrees. As shown, the wheel 16 is carried on fixed shaft 36 and pins 44 and 45 extend between lugs on bracket 11 and wheel holder 32. The pins are provided with bores for receiving cap screw 46, the bore in pin 44 being correspondingly threaded. Turning screw 46 causes pivoting at 33 whereby the relative position of wheel 16 and groove 21 is altered. The loading on wheel 16 is controlled by movable nut 47 and coil spring 48.
