Abstract

1419946 Comminuting apparatus; immersion mixer SILVERSON MACHINES LTD 14 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58880/71 Headings B1C and B2A Comminuting and mixing apparatus comprises a commuting section 1 Fig. 1 comprising a rotor 5 and surrounding stator ring 7 and a mixing section 3 with a rotor 9 formed with four blades 41 cooperating with an apertured stator 11. Both sections are mounted on a common support 15 and driven by a common shaft. The section 1 has a cylindrical shroud 17 which may be a plain or apertured cylinder or be formed by a series of mutually-spaced parallel bars or a mesh. The rotor 5 comprises a circular plate 61 with two blades 63 diametrically opposed. The surrounding stator 7 comprises elements 47 each having a base 49 Fig. 3 fitted into an annular groove 45 in a base ring 43. Each element includes angled cutting surfaces A second embodiment has stator elements 75 integral with a base ring 77, Fig. 5, and a third embodiment has sharper points on elements 81, 83, Fig. 6. The apparatus may be lowered into a tank for grinding large lumps of polymer and mixing the polymer with oil.
