Abstract
1419915 Magnetic holding devices DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE AG 23 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 23130/74 Heading H1P A handling roller for ferromagnetic laminar material comprises (Fig. 1) an axially magnetized ring permanent magnet 1 disposed between annular ferromagnetic discs 3 secured to a bush 4, with a concentric electromagnetic coil 2 energized over conductors to reinforce or reduce the field of magnet 1 according to the direction of energization so as to support or detach the load. Flanges 6 of the discs 3 enclose the circumferential surface to leave an air gap between the opposed magnetic poles closed by a non- magnetic ring 7 and coated with plastic layer 8. Plural segmental or bar magnets may be interposed between discs 3, and the electromagnetic coil need not envelop the magnets. Plural magnetic systems may be axially disposed in tandem along an axle or bush (Figs. 3, 4, not shown).
