Abstract

1419846 Treating and finishing yarns FIBER INDUSTRIES Inc 29 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15152/73 Heading D1F In fluid jet apparatus for treating e.g. bulking, splicing or interlacings, twisted or untwisted multifilamentary yarn or tow continuously passing therethrough, differential thermal expansion of components thereof viz. a housing, a jet member carried by the housing and having a yarn inlet therein, and a separate outlet fitting also carried by the housing, is compensated for and leakage of fluid thereby prevented by the use of forceloaded flexible sealing means e.g. a diaphragm or bellows, so as to maintain sealing contact between at least two components at all temperatures. Thus in the jet shown, conventional seals or gaskets 21, 33, are fitted between the ends of a jet member 20 and complementary surfaces of a housing 12 and an outlet fitting 16 whereat a bulking chamber 32 is formed and to which hot fluid under pressure is supplied through conduit 26, opening 24, chamber 17 and injection passages 38. A flexible diaphragm 50 having at least one relatively soft heat-deformable surface is loaded by domed washers 46 which are compressed by screwing cap 14 onto the housing 12. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the outlet fitting is fixed relative to the housing and the jet member is slidably spring-loaded towards it through a flexible diaphragm jet member and housing.
