Abstract
1419658 Locks for doors UNICAN SECURITY SYSTEMS Ltd 25 Jan 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 3859/73 Heading E2A Door locking means of the kind having a permutation lock mechanism 14 including a control element 18 having a rest position to which, when moved in one direction, it is yieldingly urged and from which it is releasable for motion in that direction only after proper decoding of the lock mechanism, includes a clutch device 27 comprising actuator means rotatable from a rest position toward which it is yieldingly urged and mechanism operatively connected with the control element and comprising a latch-operating member 37 which is rotatable from a rest position to effect unlocking of a latch 11, the control element inhibiting such rotation of the latch operating member except upon release of the control element following proper decoding of the lock mechanism, and means providing a rotation transmitting connection between the actuator means and the latch operating member through which the latter is normally held in its rest position by the actuator means but can be rotated to unlock the latch provided it is not inhibited by the control element; the actuator means is operable upon inhibition of rotation of the latch operating member to effect disruption of the rotation transmitting connection. As shown, the mechanism 14, mounted on a door 10, Fig. 1, includes depressible indexing and decoding buttons 17 and a rotatable control shaft 18 operated through an outside knob 12 the rotation of which is limited to 90‹ by an arm 22 working between stops 23. The clutch 27 comprises a casing 28 secured to the casing 16 of the mechanism 14 and housing coaxial clutch discs, i.e. a reset disc 36, a latch operating disc 37 and a knob or actuator disc 38, the discs 37, 38 being rotatably and axially slidable on a spindle 39 carrying the knob 12 and for connection with an optional key override mechanism in the knob. The discs 36, 37 incorporate arms 74, 76 respectively and are operatively connected with the shaft 18 by a linkage 73 which in the door looked condition assumes the solid line position in Fig. 2. Proper decoding of the mechanism 14 releases the shaft 18 whereby rotation of the knob 12 moves the linkage to the dotted position but if an erroneous or no combination is entered in the mechanism the knob is free to turn in the latoh-releasing direction; the shaft 18 will inhibit rotary motion of the discs 37, 38 and the driving connection between these discs is disrupted, the discs 36, 37 being moved rearwardly by co-operating cam surfaces 57, 59 on the discs 37, 38 to lock the disc 37 to the casing 28 this being effected by lugs 61 on the disc engaging holes 62 in the casing. The disc 36 connects, through the disc 38 and via drive lugs 54 and notches 55, with the knob 12 so that rotation of the latter in the latch releasing direction will rotate the disc 36 to actuate the linkage 73 whereby the shaft 18 resets the mechanism 14. The latch actuating shaft 65 is drivingly connected with the shaft 39 by flat drive abutments 69, 70, and a drive connection between the shaft 65 and the disc 37 is established by a pin-and-slot connection 66, 67.
