AUTOMATEN GmbH 18 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 18719/73 Heading G4V A coin-freed mechanism comprises a base plate 10 provided with apertures 57, coin channels 18, 19 for feeding coins to respective apertures in the base plate, a pair of coin return plungers 60, 61 pivotally mounted below the base plate and normally covering the apertures 57, and a pair of coin plungers 12, 14 pivotally mounted above the base plate for receiving coins fed by said channels and normally locked against rotation in the absence of a coin received therein. In the embodiment shown a further coin plunger 13 is mounted above plunger 12 on the same pivot 23, the plunger 12 being provided with a member 55 to entrain it for rotation with the plunger 13. In the absence of coins the plungers are locked by respective pawls 15, 16 and 17 a coin received in recess 21 in plunger 13 for example acting on initial rotation of the plunger to cam the pawl 16 away from a locking position (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). The channels 18, 19 are for 1 DM and 2 DM coins respectively. If the sale price is 2 DM Bowden cable 37 is actuated and either its core or sheath will pivot plungers 12 and 13 or plunger 14 depending on whether two 1 DM coins or one 2 DM coin has been inserted. If the sale price is 1 DM Bowden cable 36 is actuated to pivot plunger 12 alone, and if the price is 4 DM two actuations of cable 36 provide successive pivoting of plunger 14 and plunger 12, cams 30 and 32 being provided on these plungers to prevent simultaneous pivoting thereof. To return the inserted coins the return plungers 60, 61 are pivoted to bring apertures 62, 63 therein beneath the apertures 57 in the baseplate. In another embodiment (Figs. 8 to 12, not shown) five coin plungers 12, (75) are mounted on pivot 32, each of the plungers (75) being provided with a member (76) for entraining those plungers below it. Individual Bowden cables (77) are provided for actuating the plungers 12, (75) and cable (78) for actuating plunger 14.
