1419388 Cleaning elongate workpieces BERGER MASCHINENFABRIKEN GmbH & CO 18 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 58434/72 Heading F2N Apparatus for cleaning elongate workpieces comprises rolls 3 for supporting the workpiece (not shown) and for moving same through the apparatus (from right to left as shown), a hood 9 in the side walls 9a of which the spindle 19 of a rotary brush 18 is journalled for rotation by a motor 20, and two inclined rails 5 along which the hood/brush assembly is movable on flanged wheels 10 to alter the height of the brush. The position of the hood/brush assembly is controlled by a winch 12, in turn controlled in response to signals from light devices 16, 17 mounted on frames 14 supported by the winch. When no workpiece is in the apparatus, frames 14 and the hood/brush assembly are at their lowermost positions. An entering workpiece interrupts beams associated with both devices 16, 17, the winch motor 13 then being activated to raise the hood/brush assembly and the frames 14 until only the beam associated with device 17 is interrupted, the brush 18 then being at an optimum height relative to the workpiece. A screw conveyer 7 removes material, e.g. blasting medium, cleaned from the workpiece, e.g. an I-beam. A blower 31 discharges air through channel 32-35. An exhaust pipe (not shown) from the hood 9 enters at 23 a slot 24 formed in the fixed casing 4 of the apparatus.
