Abstract

1419346 Treating wood SHOWA KOGYO CO Ltd 29 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25590/73 Heading B5L A method of preparing a paper-making material from waste rubber wood comprises cutting through a waste but living tree close to ground level, physically removing an exudate of latex from the cut end of the felled tree until the latex substantially ceases to exudate at that end, leaving the resultant tree in the atmosphere for at least ten days, removing twigs from the trunk of the tree, tranversely cutting the trunk into lengths and barking the lengths. The tree is preferably cut through at about 10 cm. above ground level. In examples the exudate of latex is wiped off using a dry cloth and the tree is left for 10 or 20 days before cutting into 2 meter lengths. The lengths are barked manually or by machine, chipped, and prepared into pulp in a sulphate process. If it is desired to leave the log more than 20 days before cutting into blocks a microbiocidal solution is injected into the tree before felling to preserve it.
