Abstract
1419301 Safety belts NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 4 Jan 1973 [12 Jan 1972 (3)] 592/73 Heading A3V [Also in Division F2] A safety harness includes an energy absorbing device mounted between a belt and the vehicle, the device comprising two parallel leg portions joined by a bridging portion which is deformed plastically when subjected to a force of sufficient magnitude. The leg portions are accommodated between flat rigid members. In the embodiment of Figure 3 a casing comprising parallel rigid members 34, 34' houses an elongate member having parallel portions 38, 38'. Portion 38 is fixed to the casing; portion 38' is attached to the belt by a stud 58. When the belt and portion 38' are deformed in an emergency, bridging portion 40 is continuously deformed and moves progressively down the casing. In the embodiment of Figs. 7, 8 (not shown) a plastics spacer is arranged between the portions. In the embodiment of Figure 10 one parallel portion 118 is sheared from parallel rigid supporting walls 122, 122' as the bridging portion 120 is deformed.
