Abstract

1419066 Sheet forming UNILEVER Ltd 4 Dec 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 56147/71 Heading B5A An apparatus for manufacturing a container by reshaping the body portion of a heat shrinkable preform 11 having a denesting rim 34, comprises a mould 10, a surface 9 to locate the open end of the preform 11 and hinged abutment member 18 or 19 to engage the rim 34 and clamp the preform in position during its passage through a heating oven 12. The moulds are mounted on chain members 1 driven by sprocket wheels 5, 6, and the members 18, 19 are actuated by cam surfaces (29), Fig. 4, not shown, which co-operate with rollers (28). To control the amount of heating of the preforms, heat shields 39 can be disposed in the tunnel 12. The members 18 and 19 can have heat reflective facings 38 to protect the rims 34. The shrinkage of the preforms can be assisted by vacuum applied at the moulds 10. The moulds 10 can be heated. The tunnel can be heated by hot air or liquid, or by radiation heaters (15), Fig. 5, not shown. The preforms may carry printed matter.
