Abstract

1418906 Coating compositions containing clay SCOTT BADER CO Ltd 29 May 1973 [8 June 1972] 26814/72 Heading C3P A coating composition comprises an emulsion of a clay and a copolymer formed from an aminoalkyl ester of an acrylic or α-alkylacrylic acid and at least one other monomer. The term clay includes other silicate materials such as mica and talc. In examples the copolymer used was prepared from styrene, butyl acrylate and #- dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate. This was compounded with china clay and other additives selected from titanium dioxide, hydroxyethylcellulose, Calgon (Registered Trade Mark) dispersing agent, hexylene glycol, butyl carbitol acetate, antifoam agent and starch to form paints and paper coating compositions.
