Abstract
1418429 Glass fibre optic devices AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 26 April 1974 [26 April 1973] 18467/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division G2] In a flexible glass fibre optic image-conducting conduit comprising a multiplicity of coresheath optical fibres, of relatively higher and lower refractive index respectively, which are juxtaposed and fixedly connected together throughout relatively short sections at each end by a matrix glass, the matrix glass is light absorbing. Preferably the fibrescope is prepared as in Specification 1,337,230, and the leachable matrix glass has manganese oxide as the light absorbing constituent. A suggested composition in percentages by weight is given: La 2 O 3 7À6; B 2 O 3 44À65; BaO 42À75 and MnO 2 5À0.
