1417649 Decaffeinated tea product BROOKE BOND LIEBIG Ltd 9 July 1974 [9 July 1973] 32599/73 Heading A2B Green leaf is subjected to one or more organic solvent extraction steps before or after a fermentation step, and the extracted leaf is separated and either fired or further treated to produce an instant tea composition. The green leaf may be subjected to conventional withering and disrupting operations prior to extraction. The solvent may be a halogenated hydrocarbon (methylene chloride) or an aliphatic ester (ethyl acetate). After extraction the leaf may be subjected to slurry fermentation.
