Abstract
1417510 Polyethylene compositions and foams IDEMITSU KOSAN CO Ltd 6 Aug 1973 [11 Aug 1972] 22366/75 Divided out of 1417509 Headings C3C and C3P Compositions for preparing polyethylene foams comprise (1) internally unsaturated polyethylene of density 0À95 to 0À97 g./cc. and melt index at least 4À0 and (2) at least 30 per cent by weight of the mixture of inorganic calcium compound filler material. The compositions may also contain foaming agents, e.g. azodicarbonamide, diphenyl sulphone-3,3<SP>1</SP>- disulphohydrazide or diphenyl hydrazide benzyl sulphonate; crosslinking agents, e.g. 2,5-dimethyl - 2,5 - di - (t - butylperoxy)hexene - 3, dicumyl peroxide, di-t-butylperoxide or 1,3-bis- (t - butylperoxyisopropyl)benzene; lubricants and colorants; and may be heated to form crosslinked foams. The polymer may be polyethylene or a mixture thereof with a polymer of propylene, butene or hexene. The calcium compound may be calcium sulphate, sulphite, carbonate, silicate or hydroxide. Examples describe the preparation of foams from compositions of polyethylene and calcium sulphite, sulphate and carbonate using azodicarbonamide and dimethyl di-t-butylperoxy hexene-3.
