1417420 Haymaking machine C VAN DER LELY NV 15 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 58166/ 72 Heading A1F A haymaking machine comprises a frame 6 to 9 and at least one rake member that is rotatable relative to the frame about an upright axis 1 and has groups of tines 3 turnable about axes 18 of shaft-like members 19, inclined to and radially spaced from the axis 1, each of which is supported on the remainder of the rake member at only a single location at only one end of the shaftlike member, the opposite free end being closer to the axis of rotation than is said one end. The members 19 are formed by the cranked ends of spokes 2 which radiate from a hub 4. Rotation of the tines around the axes 18 is affected by control rods 5 lying alongside the spokes 2. The control rods 5 are actuated by a lever mechanism (Fig. 6) housed in the hub 4, so that the tines generally adopt a radial disposition except at, at least, one circumferential position R where a lever 60 engages a wheel 37 which draws the control rod towards the hub so retracting the group of tines concerned into a tangential disposition pointing rearwardly of the direction of rotation B of the rake member. As the group of tines moves on to positions S and T in Fig. 6 centrifugal force draws the tines back to their radial disposition allowing a lever 59 to lock the tines in that disposition, by virtue of springs 65, until they reach position Q where a stop plate 67 is engaged by a control arm 58 associated with the lever 59, releasing the lock to permit retraction of the tines on reaching position R. At slow speeds the hay falls from the tines when in position R forming a swath on the left, in the case of the embodiment of Fig. 1, of the rake member. At higher speeds at least one swath board may be employed to assist in forming the swath.
