141,728. Grubenholz-Impragnierung Ges. Nov. 29, 1913, [Convention date]. Wood, treating with liquids.-Relates to the process for impregnating wood to preserve it against attack by fungus with an aqueous solution of dinitrophenol, with or without an addition of an inorganic salt to diminish inflammability, such as ammonium sulphate, magnesium sulphate, sodium fluoride, sodium sulphate, &c., or with a solution of a mixture of a dinitrophenol salt with the fire-proofing inorganic salt, and consists in adding to the impregnating liquid an alkali chromate, bichromate, iodate, chlorate, or bromate, or borax, or dialkaliphosphate, or a mixture of these salts, in order to prevent decomposition of the dinitrophenol by iron, and to enable the impregnation to be conducted in iron vessels at ordinary or raised temperature, with or without application of pressure. The proportion of alkali chromate, &c. added, may vary between 2 per cent and 10 per cent of the dry impregnating substance.
