Abstract
1417278 Seaming non-metallic sheet material REHAU PLASTIKS GmbH 6 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16731/73 Heading B5K A plastics element 1 is welded to a hollow plastics section having two oppositely disposed walls 2, 3, the element or the section being provided on its surface to be welded with raised portions 11, by inserting the element 1 into the section, the dimensions of the element 1 being such that the walls 2, 3 are forced outwards, and ultrasonically vibrating the element 1 within the section to effect welding. In the embodiment shown, the element 1 is a block for attaching the hollow section to an object and comprises a main body having ribs 11 on the four outside faces thereof. An attachment 4 having sawtooth section grooves thereon is formed integrally with the main body. Alternatively, a screw-threaded hole is provided in the body. The edges of the body remote from the attachment 4 may be chamfered at 5 to facilitate insertion into the hollow section. The ribs 11 may be triangular, pointed, studshape or mushroom-shape in cross-section. The ribs 11 soften during welding so that the section reverts to its original profile. Preferably, the height of the ribs 11 exceeds by threequarters the width of the gap between the element 1 and the walls 2, 3.
