Abstract

1417176 Infra-red viewing TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 11 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 57079/72 Heading H4F An infra-red viewer comprises a rotatable assembly, having optics which, in co-operation with fixed optics, causes two abutting fields to be scanned on successive rotations of the assembly. The visible light conversion of the fields are correspondingly rotatably projected to be viewed in correct abutting inter-relationship. For a first, upper scan, Fig. 1, a linear array 14 of I.R. detectors is scanned across the field represented by upper and lower extremity rays 10, 11 by means of an optical assembly rotating with the detectors and comprising mirror 12 and focusing lens 13. The video output of the I.R. detectors is correspondingly fed, via amplifiers &c. to an array 15 of light emitting diodes rotating with the assembly, the light from which being projected on to a viewing screen by lens 16. For the second, lower scan, Fig. 2, the optical assembly 25, 30, 31, 32, 12 takes over, the output of the I.R. detectors being applied to an array 20 of light emitting diodes so positioned with respect to diodes 15, that their projection by lens 17 abuts the lower edge of that of the first scan. The rotating section of the viewer, mounted on bearings 21, 22 also includes printed circuit boards 53, Fig. 4 (not shown), mounted in stacks on the sides of the section, and fan-assisted Stirling cycle refrigeration means for the detectors.
