1416893 Rotary cutter C VAN DER LELY NV 14 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 26438/75 Divided out of 1416892 Heading A1F A rotary cutter comprises an annular rotor 21 bearing pivoted cutter blades 26 below which an annular element 27 is disposed, and a dish shaped ground engaging member 36 which supports the cutter and minimises the accumulation of foreign material in the space beneath the rotor. Bolts 24 which are threaded into annular element 27 serve to hold it fixed relative to rotor 21 against sleeves 25, the sleeves also serving as bearing surfaces for the pivoted blades 24. Additional support is provided by the annular element being bolted to the rotor at positions along its circumference midway between each blade. A frusto-conical ring 30 is held in position between the lower surface of the rotor 21 and a groove 28 on the inner edge 27A of annular element 27 and acts to deflect outwardly any material which has passed behind the blades. The rotor is driven via a vertical shaft 1 which is fixed to, and concentric with a drum 2 whilst one or more vertical ribs 19, mounted rotatably on the drum serve as deflectors for the cut crop. The ring 30 may be replaced by a plurality of struts, each of which is welded at one end to the underside of rotor 21 and at the other end to the inner edge of annular element 27, thereby removing the necessity of the latter being threaded to bolts 24. In an alternative embodiment, the annular element takes the form of a tubular ring of circular crosssection.
