Abstract

1416828 Accelerating the growth of microorganisms M GIANESSI 13 March 1973 [8 April 1972] 11943/73 Heading C6F A method for accelerating the growth of mircoorganisms in a liquid culture medium 7 involves passing an alternating current of e.g. 2.5-2.6 volts, through a coil 15 immersed in the medium. The coil may consist of 45-50 turns of insulated platinum wire wound about an insulated ferromagnetic core 16. The leads 12, 13 are also insulated from the culture medium except at their connection to the terminals of the coil. The bottle and stopper depicted are of glass. Examples are directed to the cultivation of Penicillium Weidemanni and of Saccharomyces lactis under the influence of the alternating current.
