Abstract

1416777 Typewriter ribbon cartridges SCM CORP 20 Aug 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 39283/73 Heading B8M A ribbon cartridge for removable attachment to a typewriter 12 or the like comprises a base 30, pivotally supported arm means 16 for guiding an endless loop of ribbon 36 between the print point 24 of the typewriter and a storage area, ribbon feed means 46 on a platform 34 defining the storage area, and a cover 32 for enclosing the platform 34. The platform 34, supported on the base 30 by pins 31 mating with elements 33, has ribbon confining flanges 38, 40, a ribbon entrance section 42 and a ribbon egress section 44, the ribbon 36 taking up a convoluted form between the sections 42, 44, with the cover 32 being attached to the base 30 by projections 135. The arm means 16 rests against a bracket surface 124 and a surface 122 of a fulcrum member 112 and has a stud 110 engaged by a projection 120 in the cover 32, a spring 114 engaging a tab 118 to hold the means 16 in position so that it is pivotable about the stud 110 by means of a lift mechanism 22 Fig. 1, which engages a stud 18 to lift the ribbon 36 to operative position on depressing one of the keys. The ribbon 36 from the egress section 44 is carried around a roller 98 and smoothing projections 88-92 to the arm means 16, reversing within a cap 19 and returning over a roller 82 to pass between a drive roller 46 and an idler friction roller 66, which pull it into the storage area intermittently. The roller 46 is driven through gearing by a powered gearwheel 168, a gearwheel 48 fixed to the roller 46 engaging with a gearwheel 174 on sliding the base 30 into engagement with flanges 146, 148 for holding the cartridge.
