Abstract

1416679 Measuring fluid-flow FERRARIS DEVELOPMENT & ENG CO Ltd 3 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 51631/71 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] A spindle S carrying a rotary vane for sensing fluid-flow has portions M1, M2 machined to form reflective marks which co-operate with a light source (20) Fig. 1 (not shown), and photo-cells PT1, PT2 to provide one pulse per revolution from each photo-cell, the pulses being counted in one of two counters in accordance with the direction of rotation. The machining is done with a diamond tipped tool. The spindle may be of stainless steel or copper. If a hard steel is used its surface is plated with copper before machining. The light source may be PN gallium arsenide infrared, the detectors N P N silcon planar. Instead of axially spacing the reflective marks, one of them may be inclined to the spindle axis Fig. 7 (not shown). The machined portions may be concave, convex or flat.
