Abstract

1416317 Isomerisation catalyst SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 7 Dec 1972 [5 Jan 1972] 56503/ 72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] An isomerisation catalyst is prepared by depositing a compound (other than a halide) of an alkali metal of atomic number at least 19 (i.e. K, Rb or Cs) on an inert anhydrous carrier of surface area greater than 25 m<SP>2</SP>/g and then contacting the carrier with metallic Na and/or Li at an elevated temperature at which the K, Rb or Cs is liberated from the alkali metal compound to provide a deposit of K, Rb or Cs on the carrier. The alkali metal compound is preferably K 2 CO 3 and the carrier gamma- Al 2 O 3 . The catalyst may be used in a two stage isomerisation - disproportionation process, wherein the catalyst for the latter stage comprises either tungsten hexachloride, acetic acid and ethylaluminium chloride or supported cobalt, molybdenum and potassium oxides.
