Abstract

1416147 Acrylate esters TOAGOSEI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 13 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 57489/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Compounds having a boiling point not lower than 200‹ C. and containing 3-6 acrylate ester groups and at least one cyclohexene nucleus in the molecule are prepared by (A) interesterifying (1) 4,5-unsaturated alicyclic dicarboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof optionally together with other dito tetra-carboxylic acids or anhydrides, (2) trito hexa-hydric alcohols, optionally together with dihydric alcohols, and (3) acrylic acid; or (B) interesterifying (1) 4,5-unsaturated alicyclic tricarboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof, optionally with other dito tetracarboxylic acids or anhydrides, (2) dito hexahydric alcohols and (3) acrylic acid. Examples of the 4,5-unsaturated acids are tetrahydrophthalic acid ; endo-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylie acid; 7,7-dimethyl-endo-5-norbornene-2,3- dicarboxylic acid; 1,4,5,6,7,7-hexachloro-endo- 5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid and the corresponding hexabromo compound; 6- methyl - 4 - cyclohexene - 1,2,3 - tricarboxylic acid; and anhydrides of these acids. The polyacrylate esters are used for curing to form resin products (see Division C3). The preparation of the corresponding poly-methacrylate esters is also described.
