Abstract
1415949 Magnetizable compositions AGFAGEVAERT AG 12 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47663/73 Headings C3R C3P and C3B A magnetic storage medium comprises a support and a layer comprising a binder CrO 2 (preferably acicular), and as dispersant, an alkyl-aryl sulphonic acid, the alkyl radical of which contains 8 to 22 carbon atoms. In examples, binders used are a polyetherurethane mixed with a hydroxyl-group-containing copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate (I, III-VII), a vinyl alcohol/vinyl acetal/vinyl formal copolymer (II) ; or vinylidene chloride/ acrylonitrile copolymer (VIII). The dispersant may be: dodecyl benzene sulphonic acid (I, II, V, VII, VIII) optionally mixed with mono- and di - phosphoric esters of octanol (III) or 2-ethylhexanol (V); or tetrapropylenebenzene sulphonic acid (II, IV and VI) optionally mixed with mono- and di-phosphoric esters of lauryl alcohol (IV) or C 20-22 alcohols (VI). The coating compositions may also contain stearic acid amide lubricant (I, II and VII, VIII), and a hardener, e.g. isobutylated melamine-formaldehyde (III), or a polyisocyanate (VII). Suitable solvents are given. Generally other suitable dispersants are phosphoric acid mono- or di-esters of C 8-22 alcohols or an alkoxylated phenol. Other binders mentioned are epoxy resins.
