Abstract

1415941 Electrolytic etching MITSUBISHI DENKI K K 4 July 1973 [5 July 1972 20 July 1972] 31835/73 Heading C7B [Also in Division H2] In apparatus for electrolytically etching a workpiece, the electrode 7 and workpiece 9 are connected respectively to output poles of a rectifier 6 rectifying the output of a step-down transformer 5 connected through a saturable reactor 4 to a three phase A.C. power source 1, and a detector 25 for detecting an abnormal phenomenon between the electrode and workpiece (e.g. sparking or current attenuation caused by oxide formation) imposes a signal on lines 12' and 36 which turns on thyristor 35 connected by way of diodes 34 to the primary windings of the transformer to short the output of the reactor. Simultaneously breakers 2 may be opened by a signal on line 33. A working gap shorting thyristor 28 (turned on by signal on line 30) and bias capacitor 37 (charged via line 39 from circuit 38) may be connected in series between the electrode and workpiece to break the working current. The detector may be arranged to make a succession of measurements of the working current (and voltage) by using sample and hole circuit and an operation amplifier to detect abnormal current attenuation (or sparks caused between the electrode and workpiece) by an abnormal phenomenon finding circuit.
