1415899 Automatic gain control INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 9 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6524/73 Heading H4R In an automatic volume control system for a recorder the gain is controlled, at least in part, in accordance with the level of a residual subcarrier of received signals, e.g. in accordance with the level of the 19 kHz subcarrier of a stereophonic FM broadcast signal. As described the gain of the record amplifier 2 is controlled by a circuit 7 fed both with the level of the recording signal 6 and the pilot tone selected by filter 11 at the output of FM receiver 1. Switching can be provided, which can be automatic on detection of the pilot tone, to select recording gain control in accordance with the level of the pilot tone, the level of the recording signal, or a combination of both. When selecting control by pilot tone the hangover time constant of the control signal rectifier can be reduced.
