1415606 Conveyers CHEMETRON CORP 6 Sept 1973 [28 Sept 1972] 41918/73 Heading B8A Apparatus for handling elongated loaves 509 of luncheon meat, cheese, sausage etc., comprises a rollerway 520 for feeding an elevator 36, 526; and a driven roller conveyer 512 which transfers the loaves from the elevator to a shoot 554 provided with rollers 188. A pair of rotary knives 558 cuts off the rounded ends of the loaves while the latter are on the elevator. The inclination of the rollerway 520 is adjustable and a section 16 has rollers 21a supported in cantilever fashion to enable fingers 24 attached to a lift bar 26 of the elevator to pass between groups of the rollers. The bar 26 is guided between two webs 34 of the elevator framework which pivots between the positions shown in Fig. 2, the bar 26 being raised and lowered by a chain 70 reversibly driven by a motor 536. A motor-driven crank unit 100, 552, 110 causes the elevator framework to pivot. The roller conveyer 512 has pairs of tapered rolls 130 driven by a belt 134 engaged by resilient pinch rolls 136. The shoot 554 is adjustable for height and angular position and has adjustable guide walls 194. The loaves 509 are fed side-by-side to a stop 20 at the end of the rollerway section 16 from which individual loaves are raised by the elevator fingers 24. After the loaf ends have been cut and the loaf raised to the top of the elevator, the latter pivots to its full-line position, Fig. 2, and the loaf is lowered on to the roller conveyer 512 for transfer to the shoot 554. The taper on the rolls 130 tends to prevent the loaf from falling off the ends of the rolls. When the lif bar 26 has been completely lowered the elevato framework returns to its inclined position ready to lift the next loaf. Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown) are concerned with electric power and control circuitry and with the positioning of limit switches for controlling the sequence of operations of the apparatus.
